OpenAI Launches GPT-6 Sol and Luna

OpenAI released Sol and Luna, two new models in the GPT-6 family, on September 22. Both build on the technology behind GPT-6 Astra.

Sol costs $2 per million input tokens and $10 per million output tokens. Luna comes in at $0.10/$0.50, making it the cheapest option in the GPT-6 lineup. That is roughly half the price of GPT-5.6.

Sol targets interactive and agentic coding workflows. Luna handles lighter tasks where speed matters more than depth. Both are available to Plus, Pro, Business, Enterprise, and Edu users in ChatGPT and Codex.

Xiaomi Open-Sources MiMo-V2.6, a Trillion-Parameter Model

Xiaomi released the MiMo-V2.6 series under the MIT license on September 22. The family includes Pro, Flash, and Pro-UltraSpeed variants.

MiMo-V2.6-Pro is a mixture-of-experts model with 1.02 trillion total parameters. Of its 384 routed experts, eight fire on any given token, activating roughly 42 billion parameters. It supports a one-million-token context window.

The models handle text, image, video, and audio within a single family. Pro ranked first on the Artificial Analysis open-weight index with a score of 46, out of 114 tracked models. Commercial use carries no restrictions.

Microsoft and Coinbase Dismantle EvilTokens AI Phishing Service

Microsoft’s Digital Crimes Unit and Coinbase took down EvilTokens, an AI-powered phishing-as-a-service platform. A U.S. federal court in the Eastern District of Virginia authorized the seizure on September 22.

EvilTokens charged $500 per month. Its AI chatbot scanned compromised mailboxes and generated tailored phishing messages automatically. Over 12,000 Microsoft 365 accounts across more than 10,000 companies were affected worldwide.

Authorities seized 50 websites and over 150 domains. Coinbase traced roughly $1.1 million in cryptocurrency revenue, and two alleged operators were arrested in London.

Samsung HBM Share Hits 33%, HBM4 Sales Set to Triple

Samsung’s HBM market share rose to 33% in Q2, up 12 percentage points from 21% in Q1. The gap with SK hynix narrowed from 37 points to 17.

HBM4 mass production is ramping, and Q3 sales are projected to more than triple quarter over quarter. KB Securities expects Samsung to approach 40% share by Q4.

HBM4 should account for over 60% of Samsung’s total HBM revenue in the second half. The foundry division is also expected to turn profitable in Q3.

Mirendil Targets $5B Valuation, Up 5x in One Quarter

Mirendil, the AI startup founded by former Anthropic researchers Behnam Neyshabur and Harsh Mehta, is in talks to raise up to $1 billion at a $5 billion valuation. Bloomberg first reported the news.

Three months ago, Kleiner Perkins and Andreessen Horowitz led a $200 million seed round at a $1 billion valuation. The new round would mark a fivefold jump in a single quarter.

Mirendil’s core technology is recursive self-improvement, where models boost their own performance with minimal human intervention. Neyshabur previously co-led Anthropic’s scientific AI reasoning team.

TEKEVER Raises $580M Series D at $6.4B Valuation

Portuguese defense-tech firm TEKEVER closed a $580 million Series D, reaching a $6.4 billion valuation. UC Investments and Baillie Gifford led the round.

TEKEVER’s AI-powered surveillance drones have logged over 50,000 operational flight hours in Ukraine. They support battlefield intelligence, maritime patrol, border surveillance, and search and rescue operations.

The round follows TEKEVER’s selection for the British Army’s GBP 400 million CORVUS programme. CEO Ricardo Mendes said the capital will fund acquisitions, anticipating “tremendous consolidation” in the defense-tech sector.

New Tech

Intel and ASML Pass One Million High-NA EUV Wafers

Intel Foundry and ASML announced they have processed more than one million wafers using High-NA EUV lithography on September 8. The count spans early certification, R&D, and volume production.

High-NA EUV is already in use for select layers of Intel Core Ultra Series 3 processors, codenamed Panther Lake. Yield, overlay error budget, defect rate, and scanner availability all meet expectations.

Performance matches or exceeds equivalent layers patterned via multi-exposure 0.33-NA NXE platforms. Intel is also developing larger 6x12 photomasks to further improve throughput.

MIT’s Tiny Flying Robot Gets 450% Faster with AI

MIT developed a new AI control system that boosts its tiny flying robot’s speed by 450%, achieving insect-like agility.

The robot weighs less than a paperclip and can perform 10 somersaults in 11 seconds. Soft artificial muscles flap its wings at high speed, and the AI controller guides it through gymnastic flight paths.

The technology could eventually let miniature robots search earthquake rubble and navigate tight spaces that conventional drones cannot reach.

i-have-adhd: Trimming AI Agent Verbosity

An open-source project that prevents AI coding agents from burying answers under excessive reasoning and preamble. It surpassed 46,800 stars on GitHub Trending in September.

Written in Python, it works with Claude Code, Copilot, Codex, and other major AI coding agents. It strips unnecessary output so developers get straight to the answer.

context-mode: Agent Context Window Optimizer

A TypeScript middleware that trims noisy tool output before it consumes an agent’s context window. It has earned over 23,200 stars on GitHub Trending.
