White House AI CEO Luncheon Produces ‘Frontier Responsibilities’ Pledge
On September 29, President Trump hosted an AI luncheon at the White House with 31 tech leaders including Jensen Huang (NVIDIA), Dario Amodei (Anthropic), Sundar Pichai (Google), Greg Brockman (OpenAI), Mark Zuckerberg (Meta), and Elon Musk. According to Fortune, attendees agreed to a joint commitment on frontier model self-regulation.
No new legislation emerged from the meeting. The administration maintains its stance from a June executive order, keeping frontier model oversight voluntary through company-set guardrails. House Speaker Mike Johnson also attended, hinting at possible congressional action down the line.
The declaration formalizes the U.S. approach of industry self-regulation for AI safety. This stands in sharp contrast to Europe’s AI Act, and the divergence will shape the global AI governance landscape heading into 2027.
DoorDash Launches AI Ordering Agent via Apple Messages
DoorDash unveiled an AI agent that lets customers order food through Apple Messages, skipping the DoorDash app entirely. Co-founder Andy Fang introduced the feature at the Dash Forward event on September 29, with a U.S. waitlist opening on September 30.
The agent matches a customer’s phone number to their DoorDash profile, then builds a cart based on order history and preferences. Natural language commands like “order my usual” work seamlessly, and checkout happens inside the message thread without opening any separate app.
This marks a noteworthy shift in how food delivery platforms think about user interfaces. By embedding ordering into a native messaging app, DoorDash is betting that reducing friction matters more than keeping users inside its own ecosystem.
Instinct AI Raises $1B Series C at $10B Valuation
Personal AI agent startup Instinct closed a $1B Series C led by Sequoia Capital, Benchmark, and Coatue, reaching a $10B valuation. That is a 4x jump from the $2.5B mark it hit in a Series B just one month earlier.
Founded by Noah Shinn, Instinct runs an invite-only service launched in August. The agent makes calls, sends texts, and handles tasks on behalf of users, from trip planning and grocery shopping to ticket booking and subscription cancellations.
A 4x valuation leap in a single month underscores just how aggressively investors are chasing the personal AI agent category. Whether actual usage data can support these multiples remains the central question.

onsemi Confirms $5.7B All-Cash Acquisition of Synaptics
onsemi and Synaptics amended their June merger agreement on October 1. The revised deal converts the original all-stock transaction (valued at approximately $7B) into an all-cash offer of $123 per share, totaling roughly $5.7B. The amendment came in response to an unsolicited competing proposal from a third party.
Through this acquisition, onsemi gains Synaptics’ Edge AI compute franchise along with its human-machine interface (HMI) and wireless connectivity portfolio. The company projects this will extend its capabilities beyond power and sensing into intelligent systems, expanding its total addressable market by $30B to reach $243B by 2030.
The downward price revision from $7B to $5.7B due to competitive bidding pressure signals that semiconductor M&A valuations may be entering a more disciplined phase, even as demand for Edge AI capabilities continues to accelerate.

Cloudflare Declares Intent to Become a Public Certificate Authority
Cloudflare announced its plan to transition from a certificate consumer to a public certificate authority (CA). The company signed a definitive agreement to acquire root key material from GlobalSign and applied for inclusion in the Chrome, Apple, Microsoft, and Mozilla root programs.
The new CA will issue both traditional TLS certificates and Merkle Tree Certificates (MTCs), a compact format designed for the post-quantum era. Production MTC issuance is targeted for Q1 2027. Free ACME-based issuance will be available, but only for clients that support ARI (ACME Renewal Information) as defined in RFC 9773.
This is the most significant entry into the free CA space since Let’s Encrypt. Offering post-quantum certificates via ACME at no cost could reshape the TLS ecosystem, particularly as quantum computing timelines become more concrete.
