OpenAI Publishes 722 Math Manuscripts; AHM Calls It a ‘Demonstration of Power’
On October 6, OpenAI released 722 mathematical manuscripts generated by an unreleased model to a public GitHub repository. The manuscripts cover 372 families of results, each accompanied by formal proofs verified in the Lean proof assistant. OpenAI stated that nearly all results came from a single prompt to one AI agent.
The Association for Human Mathematics (AHM), led by Fields medalist Terence Tao, responded on October 7 with a formal statement. AHM characterized the release as “a demonstration of power, not an act of scholarship” and urged mathematicians to discontinue their work with OpenAI. The timing drew particular scrutiny, as OpenAI is currently defending copyright infringement lawsuits.
The controversy raises fundamental questions about the academic status of AI-generated research and scientific ethics standards. The gap between supporters and critics of AI’s role in mathematics continues to widen.
Manus Seeks $4B Valuation in $500M Round After Meta Split
Chinese AI agent startup Manus is pursuing a $500 million fundraise at a $4 billion valuation, according to AI Weekly. This marks the company’s first capital raise since Beijing blocked Meta’s $2 billion acquisition over export control concerns. The two companies completed operational separation in May.
Potential investors include IDG Capital, Boyu Capital, and CATL, while existing shareholders Tencent and HongShan (formerly Sequoia China) are also in discussions. Tencent is reportedly considering becoming the largest shareholder.
If finalized, the $4 billion valuation would make Manus the highest-valued AI agent startup in China, ahead of rival Evoken (developer of design agent Lovart) which is raising at roughly $3 billion. Manus is also exploring a restructuring exercise for a potential Hong Kong IPO.
DeepSeek May Double Its Funding Round to $15 Billion
DeepSeek is considering expanding its existing 50 billion yuan ($7.4 billion) funding round to as much as 100 billion yuan ($15 billion), driven by surging investor demand. The Next Web reports that CATL and Tencent are the largest backers, with the post-money valuation reaching approximately 500 billion yuan ($75 billion).
Demand has far exceeded the initial target. Caixin Global reported that committed capital already exceeds 80 billion yuan ($12 billion), with additional investors still seeking allocation.
DeepSeek plans to restructure for an IPO in early 2027 once the round closes. The rapid valuation jump from its first external investment in June to a potential $75 billion valuation in just four months reflects the intensely competitive Chinese AI investment landscape.

IBM and Red Hat Lightwell Fixes 400+ Previously Unknown Java Vulnerabilities
IBM and Red Hat’s Lightwell initiative, launched in May 2026 alongside a $5 billion investment, has identified and fixed more than 400 previously unknown vulnerabilities in widely used Java libraries. This milestone marks the first major deliverable from the open-source security program.
The Lightwell Clearinghouse, which went generally available on October 6, lets enterprise customers submit specific open-source dependencies for priority security reviews. Infosecurity Magazine reports that the service now provides over 6,500 remediated, digitally signed, and certified dependencies across Java and Python.
What sets Lightwell apart is its approach of directly backporting fixes rather than waiting for upstream maintainers. According to It’s FOSS News, expansion to JavaScript and .NET is already on the roadmap.
Nanya Technology Approved to Build 3D Packaging Plant in Pingtung
Taiwan’s National Science and Technology Council (NSTC) has approved Nanya Technology’s plan to build an advanced 3D wafer packaging and testing plant in the Pingtung Science Park. The facility will target high-capacity, high-bandwidth memory modules including HBM.
Nanya has raised its 2026 capital expenditure from NT$52 billion to NT$69.7 billion. TrendForce reports that the company’s total investment is expected to exceed NT$300 billion.
As AI datacenter demand for HBM surges, 3D packaging has become a critical competitive front in the DRAM industry. With Samsung and SK hynix already scaling HBM production, Taiwanese memory makers are now making their own significant moves in this space.

Mecka AI Nears $500M Valuation in Sequoia-Led Round for Robot Training Data
Mecka AI, a startup that collects and analyzes human motion data for training robots, is nearing a new funding round led by Sequoia Capital at a valuation of approximately $500 million. AI Chief reports this follows a $60 million raise led by Framework Ventures just three months ago.
Mecka’s business model pays people to record everyday activities using smartphones and body sensors. Tasks range from making coffee to repairing cars. The resulting motion data is used by humanoid robot manufacturers to train their machines to perform physical tasks.
Physical-world training data has emerged as a critical bottleneck for robotics AI. Sequoia Capital’s repeated investments in the robotics data space signal growing confidence that the motion capture data market is becoming a substantial standalone category.
Universal Quantum Raises $100M+ for Commercial-Scale Quantum Computers
UK-based quantum computing startup Universal Quantum has raised more than $100 million in a new funding round. According to Tech Startups, the company will use the capital to accelerate development of commercial-scale quantum computers based on trapped-ion technology.
Universal Quantum’s approach uses trapped-ion qubits on chips designed to be compatible with existing semiconductor manufacturing processes. This compatibility, the company claims, enables faster scaling of qubit counts compared to other quantum hardware approaches.
Quantum computing continues to attract large rounds in 2026 despite the technology being years away from practical quantum advantage. The hardware scaling race is intensifying as multiple approaches compete for the lead.

Truffle Security Finds 543,000 Valid Credentials Across 224 Million GitHub Repos
Security firm Truffle Security scanned 224 million public GitHub repositories and found 543,699 unique credentials that still authenticated when tested. BleepingComputer reports the leaked secrets include AWS keys, Google Cloud service accounts, and MongoDB connection strings.
The median duration a credential remained publicly accessible was 784 days, roughly two years and two months. Notably, 36.8% of the exposed credentials (199,843) were leaked after GitHub activated Push Protection for all users in February 2024.
While Push Protection has reduced some exposures, many types of live secrets fall outside its coverage, including database connection strings and Google API keys. The findings underscore that credential management in public repositories remains an ongoing challenge for the open-source ecosystem.
claude-mem Crosses 90K GitHub Stars as AI Agent Persistent Memory Engine
Open-source project claude-mem has surpassed 90,000 GitHub stars. It solves one of the most common frustrations with session-based AI assistants: every new session starts cold with no knowledge of prior work.
The system intercepts agent tool calls via hooks, records observations, and uses a background AI worker to compress raw activity into structured, searchable memory. At the start of each new session, relevant past observations are retrieved using hybrid full-text and vector search, then injected into the agent’s context window through progressive disclosure to keep token costs under control.
Released under the Apache 2.0 license, claude-mem is compatible with Claude Code, Codex, Gemini CLI, and several other AI coding agents. The project’s rapid growth reflects strong demand for persistent context across AI assistant sessions.
