Trump Signs Executive Order Rebranding ‘AI’ as ‘Super Intelligence’
President Trump signed Executive Order 14434 on September 29, directing federal agencies to replace “Artificial Intelligence” with “Super Intelligence (SI)” in official communications.
The order covers executive-branch correspondence, websites, reports, public communications, and policy documents. It does not require changes to existing regulations, contracts, grants, or historical records. No penalties apply to private citizens, researchers, or companies that continue using “AI.”
The NSF began applying SI terminology to grant announcements in early October. Trump argued that “artificial” makes the technology sound less capable. The renaming is a branding directive, not a scientific reclassification of current systems.
ARTEX AI Pentest Tool Linked to Breaches at Seven South Korean Banks
An open-source autonomous penetration testing tool called ARTEX was weaponized against real financial institutions. CrowdStrike traced a late-September through early-October campaign that hit Shinhan Bank, Yegaram Savings Bank, and five other South Korean financial firms, exposing data on roughly 68,000 individuals.
Published on GitHub on July 26 by developer Autumn-27 under the AGPL-3.0 license, ARTEX autonomously identifies targets, discovers vulnerabilities, plans attack paths, executes security tools, and verifies results. It won the Baidu Security Response Center’s “Agent+” challenge and had 1,655 stars by October 6.
The developer removed the repository and went closed-source on October 8. The Cloud Security Alliance called it a stark example of the dual-use risk in agentic AI security tools.

Apple ‘Welcome Home’ Event Today: HomePad Smart Home Hub Takes Center Stage
Apple is holding its ‘Welcome Home’ event today at 9 a.m. ET in Tribeca, New York. Three products are expected: the HomePad smart home hub, HomePod mini 2, and a new Apple TV 4K.
The HomePad sits at the intersection of iPad and HomePod. It features a roughly 6-inch square display with a camera and presence sensor that recognizes household members and surfaces personalized widgets. Two form factors are expected: a wall-mountable version and a tabletop model with a half-dome speaker base reminiscent of the iMac G4.
All three devices will feature Siri AI as their core interaction layer, handling lights, accessories, FaceTime, video, news, weather, and calendar through voice-first interfaces.
Skyworks Completes $22 Billion Qorvo Merger
Skyworks Solutions officially closed its combination with Qorvo on October 5, creating a U.S.-based leader in RF, power management, and analog and mixed-signal semiconductors.
Qorvo shareholders received $32.50 in cash plus 0.960 of a Skyworks common share per Qorvo share. Legacy Skyworks shareholders hold approximately 63% of the combined company, with legacy Qorvo shareholders at 37%. The company trades under the SWKS ticker on NASDAQ.
Management targets annualized cost savings of $500 million or more within 24 to 36 months of full integration.

Type One Energy Raises $200M Series B for Stellarator Fusion
Stellarator fusion startup Type One Energy closed a $200 million Series B on October 7. Breakthrough Energy Ventures (Bill Gates) and Clutterbuck Capital co-led the round, with Lowercarbon Capital, Siemens Energy Ventures, and SiteGround Capital participating. Total funding now exceeds $400 million.
Stellarators confine plasma using only external magnetic fields in a complex, twisted chamber. Unlike tokamaks, they need no internal current, which makes continuous operation more practical.
The company plans to build a 400 MWe commercial fusion plant called Infinity Two at the former Bull Run thermal power plant site in Tennessee, operated by TVA, with a 2034 commercial operation target.

Wolfspeed Secures $1.5 Billion Conditional Loan from U.S. Defense Department
Silicon carbide (SiC) chipmaker Wolfspeed received a conditional loan commitment of up to $1.5 billion with a 30-year maturity from the U.S. Department of War on October 7. In return, the department receives equity warrants for up to 7.5% of the company.
The first $600 million tranche refinances Wolfspeed’s 2030 first-lien senior secured notes. The remaining $900 million splits into tranches of $200 million to $400 million for project expenditures, with a 36-month drawdown period.
SiC is critical for power semiconductors in EVs, 5G infrastructure, and defense systems. Wolfspeed shares surged roughly 27% in after-hours trading following the announcement.
Samsung HBM4E 12-Layer Product Passes NVIDIA Quality Validation
Samsung’s Memory Division completed NVIDIA quality verification for its HBM4E 12-layer product at the end of September. Major hyperscalers have also signed off.
The product delivers 48GB capacity at up to 16Gbps per pin, more than 20% faster than the predecessor HBM4, with 16% better energy efficiency. Samsung is scaling up glass carrier cleaning outsourcing from 20,000 to 50,000 sheets per month to support HBM production.
Passing validation means the memory meets technical and reliability requirements, though confirmed supply volumes and mass-production schedules have not been disclosed.

ArtCraft Releases WordCraft: Microsoft Word Reimplemented in Rust
Startup ArtCraft has released a pre-alpha of WordCraft, a clean-room reimplementation of Microsoft Word written entirely in Rust. Built with Claude AI assistance, it supports DOCX read/write, ribbon UI, styles, tables, track changes, references, and mail merge.
Feature completeness stands at 62%, with an alpha suitable for daily writing expected soon. ArtCraft is also developing GridCraft (Excel) and DeckCraft (PowerPoint) in parallel.
This is a serious open-source challenge to Microsoft Office, backed by the performance guarantees of Rust. The project is available on GitHub.
OpenStack 2026.1 ‘Gazpacho’ Released
The OpenStack community wrapped up its 2026.1 development cycle and shipped the Gazpacho release. The update brings stability and feature improvements for enterprise private cloud operations.

Valor Mortis: Napoleonic Soulslike FPS Out Today
Valor Mortis, a first-person action soulslike set during the Napoleonic Wars, launched on PC today. Players rise from death as a former soldier of Napoleon’s army, wielding supernatural powers symbolized by a massive red arm.
