Anthropic Ships Claude Opus 5.5
Anthropic released Claude Opus 5.5 on September 22. The model matches Fable 5.1 on agentic coding and knowledge work while cutting operational costs by 40% compared to Opus 5. Output speed improved by more than 30%.
API pricing lands at $4 per million input tokens and $20 per million output tokens. Cache reads cost $0.20 per million tokens, a 60% reduction from the previous generation. The model supports a one-million-token context window.
Opus 5.5 is available on AWS, Google Cloud, and Microsoft Azure. Anthropic indicated that Sonnet 5.5 and Haiku 5.5 will follow within weeks.
Crusoe Walks Away from $1.25B Boom Turbine Deal
AI data center infrastructure company Crusoe terminated its purchase agreement for 29 of Boom Supersonic’s Superpower gas turbines. The 1.21 GW order, signed in December 2025, was worth $1.25 billion.
Boom CEO Blake Scholl said the turbines are “no longer part of Crusoe’s near term primary power mix.” A Crusoe spokesperson added that “while Boom was a strong partner, the arrangement is not the right fit today.”
The cancellation came shortly after Crusoe closed a $3.9 billion Series F in mid-September. It reflects a broader shift in the AI data center industry away from fixed gigawatt-scale power commitments toward modular facilities and cloud services.

AMD Crosses $1 Trillion Market Cap for the First Time
AMD shares closed at roughly $613 on September 21, pushing its market capitalization past $1 trillion for the first time. AMD joins NVIDIA, Broadcom, and Micron as the fourth US chipmaker to reach the milestone. The stock is up more than 180% year-to-date in 2026.
Second-quarter results drove the surge. Revenue reached $11.54 billion, up 50% year over year, with the Data Center segment posting $6.7 billion in revenue, a 107% increase. Surging demand for AI computing is the primary factor.
That said, AMD still trails NVIDIA by a wide margin. NVIDIA’s market cap stands at roughly $5.4 trillion, reflecting the ongoing gap in AI accelerator market share.
Apple Hit with Record $5.7B Patent Verdict
A federal jury in San Diego ruled that Apple’s Taptic Engine infringes two haptic technology patents held by Taction Technology. The $5.7 billion damages award is the largest patent infringement verdict in US history.
The case centered on US Patent Nos. 10,659,885 and 10,820,117, both covering vibration-based tactile transducer technology used in iPhones and Apple Watches.
Taction first filed suit in 2021. Apple won dismissal in 2023, but the Federal Circuit revived the case. The jury trial began September 14, and after two days of deliberation, the seven jurors returned a verdict in Taction’s favor. Apple plans to appeal.

Firecrawl Raises $75M Series B, Launches Alexandria
Web crawling startup Firecrawl closed a $75 million Series B led by Smash Ventures. Y Combinator, Altos Ventures, Nexus Venture Partners, Freestyle, and Offline Ventures participated.
Alongside the round, Firecrawl launched Alexandria, a unified data platform for AI agents. Alexandria integrates web search, third-party data, and Firecrawl’s index into a single API. On an 845-task benchmark, it delivered a 21% improvement in answer quality over default tools.
As AI agents move from demos into production workloads, the quality and accessibility of their data sources becomes a competitive differentiator. Firecrawl’s raise signals growing investor confidence in this infrastructure layer.
Netlist Triggers ITC Investigation Against Micron Over DDR5
The US International Trade Commission (ITC) launched an investigation on September 24 into Micron, Supermicro, HPE, and Lenovo at Netlist’s request. Case number 337-TA-1523 covers four Netlist patents related to DDR5 RDIMM and MRDIMM products.
Netlist is seeking exclusion and cease-and-desist orders that could ban the import and sale of the accused memory products in the United States. The complaint was originally filed on August 11, 2026.
DDR5 memory is a critical component in AI servers and HPC systems. Depending on the outcome, this investigation could disrupt supply chains for major server manufacturers.

systemd 262 Introduces AI-Generated Code Canary
Linux service manager systemd 262 shipped on September 22. A notable addition is an AI/LLM canary designed to flag code contributions generated by AI that have not been properly reviewed by a human. The mechanism adds a new layer of quality assurance for open-source projects.
Technical improvements include static PID 1 binary builds for minimal containers, Intel TDX virtualization support alongside existing AMD SEV-SNP, Argon2id-hardened TPM boot PINs, and Live Update Orchestrator (LUO) session support.
The addition of Intel TDX to systemd-vmspawn broadens the platform’s reach in confidential computing environments, complementing the existing AMD SEV-SNP support.
Linux Foundation Hosts First MCP Dev Summit in Toronto
The Linux Foundation is holding a dedicated Model Context Protocol (MCP) developer summit on October 5-6 in Toronto. MCP co-founders and core contributors will gather to shape the future of AI agent interoperability standards.
Keynote speakers include Den Delimarsky, lead maintainer of MCP at Anthropic. Sessions cover enterprise MCP adoption at TELUS and strategies for governing MCP deployments at scale.
The fact that MCP now has its own Linux Foundation summit underscores how quickly the protocol has gained traction in the AI agent ecosystem. Just a year after Anthropic’s initial release, MCP is on track to become an industry-wide standard.

COSMIC Desktop 1.9 Adds Image Viewer and On-Screen Keyboard
System76’s Rust-based Linux desktop environment COSMIC Epoch 1.9 shipped on September 23. The release introduces COSMIC Viewer, a new image viewer, and COSMIC OSK, an on-screen keyboard supporting touchscreens and gamepad input.
The COSMIC Store received a redesign that now displays developer information for each app. Additional improvements include font settings synchronization for GNOME apps and multiple bug fixes across context menus and app icons.
Each COSMIC release fills another gap in daily-driver functionality. Version 1.9 continues that trajectory by adding two utilities that most desktop users expect out of the box.
jev-chat-jarvis: Screen-Reading Chat Copilot Tops GitHub Trending
Kotlin-based chat copilot jev-chat-jarvis hit number one on GitHub trending in September. The mobile app reads messages from WeChat, QQ, X, and Feishu directly from the screen, understands context, and suggests candidate replies.
Its non-invasive approach is the key selling point: the app uses only accessibility APIs without hooking into or modifying any messaging app. Users decide whether to send each suggested reply. As of late September, the project has surpassed 6,700 GitHub stars.
Unlike conventional AI assistants that require switching to a separate app, jev-chat-jarvis operates as an overlay on whatever messenger is already open.
