OpenAI Engineer Arrested for Planting Spy Device in Executive Conference Room

The device, discovered on September 30, had a microphone and could connect to a camera. It was concealed in toilet paper. A similar custom-built device was later found in Alfozan’s personal bag. He had worked at OpenAI since July 2025.

OpenAI terminated the employee and referred the matter to the FBI. The company said it found no evidence that model weights, source code, or customer data were accessed or exfiltrated.
