Schwab and JPMorgan Block External AI Agents from Customer Accounts

Charles Schwab CEO Rick Wurster told Bloomberg TV that the firm is blocking external AI agents, including Meta’s Muse, from moving customer money. Schwab plans to set up MCP (Model Context Protocol) servers that let outside AI tools check balances and run research in read-only mode. Executing trades or transferring funds will not be allowed.

JPMorgan has taken the same stance. CEO Jamie Dimon confirmed on the third-quarter earnings call that the bank blocks external agents from operating retail customer accounts. JPMorgan is piloting its own tool, Smart Cash, which forecasts cash flow and moves funds to maximize yield.

Wurster raised the liability question: “Who’s liable?” US law on AI agent responsibility remains unsettled, and some analysts point to a commercial motive as well. Third-party agents that automatically sweep uninvested cash from low-yield brokerage accounts into higher-yielding instruments could threaten billions in net interest revenue.

AI Midterm Ads Hit $137M, with 70% Lacking Disclosure

The Wesleyan Media Project and AdImpact data show that roughly $137 million was spent on AI-generated political ads in the 2026 US midterms. Of the 220 identified ads, about 70% carried no notice that AI was involved. Republican campaigns and conservative-aligned PACs produced more than 80% of them.

Nearly half depicted real politicians in fabricated scenarios. A Bruce Blakeman campaign video placed New York Mayor Zohran Mamdani and Governor Kathy Hochul in a synthetic ad with no AI disclaimer. Wesleyan co-director Erika Franklin Fowler noted that “if there wasn’t a disclaimer on the ad, it would be hard to know that AI was there,” as reported by Gadget Review.

Tech Against Terrorism: 81 of 134 AI Models Fail Safety Benchmark

Tech Against Terrorism tested 134 large language models against a counter-terrorism safety benchmark, and 81 (about 60%) failed. Only two passed completely. The evaluation used roughly 2,500 single-shot prompts drawn from a taxonomy of 152 misuse types.

Models that had undergone abliteration, a process that strips safety guardrails, failed every test. The National reported that Meta’s Llama 3.1 8B scored 97 out of 100 in its original state but dropped to roughly 3 after modification. The results highlight the structural fragility of safety mechanisms in current language models.

EverWind Unveils C$10B AI Data Center and Wind Farm in Nova Scotia

Canadian energy company EverWind announced a C$10 billion investment plan at Point Tupper, Nova Scotia. C$8 billion is earmarked for a data center campus and C$2 billion for onshore wind farms. It would be the largest private investment in Nova Scotia’s history.

An undisclosed “leading frontier AI developer” has signed a 20-year lease for the 18,600-square-metre facility. Reuters reported that Anthropic is the tenant, though EverWind has not officially confirmed this. The first phase targets 95 megawatts of capacity by late 2027, with a 325-megawatt expansion planned for 2028.

The project is expected to create 2,000 construction jobs and 215 permanent positions. However, the wind farms will not be ready when the data center opens, meaning initial operations will rely on existing grid power. NDP Leader Claudia Chender has called for concrete guarantees on electricity rate protection and water resource management.

Xbox Appoints New Mojang CEO, Creates XP Division

Xbox CEO Asha Sharma announced in an internal memo on October 8 that Maria Angelidou-Smith will become CEO of Mojang and Minecraft starting October 19. Angelidou-Smith most recently served as Chief Product Officer at Reddit, and previously led Facebook Groups at Meta, which had 1.8 billion monthly users.

Former Mojang head Kayleen Walters moves to lead the newly created Xbox XP division, covering TV, film, merchandise, and licensing. The move signals Xbox’s ambition to extend Minecraft beyond gaming into a broader media franchise. The appointment of a social and product leader with no listed games industry experience has drawn industry attention.

Fragment Raises $12M Series A to Turn AI Agents into Financial Operators

Fragment, an infrastructure startup building programmable ledgers for AI agents, closed a $12 million Series A led by FirstMark. BoxGroup also participated, bringing total funding to $23 million. The platform enables AI agents to handle payments, accounting, and fund transfers directly.

As Schwab and JPMorgan lock down external agent access to customer accounts, Fragment approaches the problem from the agent developer side, building compliance infrastructure for AI-to-financial-system interactions. The company is positioning itself in a market where standards for how AI agents interact with financial systems remain undefined.

RapidCanvas Raises $29M Series B for Managed AI Execution

Managed AI execution startup RapidCanvas closed a $29 million Series B led by Vertex Ventures SEA & India, bringing total funding to $52.5 million. The platform automates the end-to-end process of deploying and managing AI models in production environments.

The gap between AI model training and production deployment remains significant for many enterprises. RapidCanvas plans to expand operations in Southeast Asia and India, where enterprise AI adoption is accelerating.

Natura Announces $99 AI Smart Ring Interface

Wearable startup Natura announced the Interface, a $99 smart ring that routes voice requests to up to five AI agents through a finger tap. At launch, supported agents are expected to include Claude, ChatGPT, Grok, Meta Muse, and a scheduling agent called Instinct. The ring also tracks heart rate, HRV, sleep, and activity.

Battery life ranges from 6 to 12 days depending on usage, with a 100-minute full charge. After a 3-to-6-month free period, a $9 monthly subscription kicks in. Shipping is slated for January 2027, and the supported agent lineup is still evolving. The device offers a new input modality for AI agent interactions without reaching for a phone.

Ninth Circuit Vacates Tesla FSD Class Certification

A three-judge panel on the US Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals vacated class certification in the Tesla Full Self-Driving false advertising lawsuit. The panel ruled that there were too many individualized questions about what each buyer saw before purchasing.

The ruling undoes two California buyer classes that Judge Rita Lin certified in August 2025. While the underlying lawsuit continues, thousands of buyers can no longer pursue their claims jointly. Plaintiffs’ attorneys said the panel “did not fully appreciate the unique circumstances” of the case. The outcome underscores ongoing legal uncertainty around advertising claims for autonomous driving technology.

Mozilla Launches Firefox Enterprise

Mozilla released Firefox Enterprise for businesses and government agencies. The browser itself remains free and open source. The paid component is a management console that organizations host on their own infrastructure, offering data loss prevention (DLP), AI tool controls, and centralized policy management.

Initial target markets are France, Germany, Austria, and Switzerland. According to PPC Land, version 158 is the first Enterprise release, currently available through early access. Pricing has not been disclosed. The Europe-first strategy aligns with the region’s active digital sovereignty agenda.

openEuler Presents SuperPod OS Vision at Open Source Summit Europe

The openEuler project presented its SuperPod OS and agentic scaling vision at Open Source Summit Europe in Prague. The proposal treats an entire AI cluster as a single machine. UnifiedBus provides a unified memory address space, and cluster-level services (Engine, Virt, Mem, Comm, IO) sit on top.

Since openEuler 24.03 LTS SP3 first supported the SuperPod architecture, SP4 has added UB OS Component and UB Service Core. The project claims a 30 to 50 percent improvement in application performance, though independent benchmarks have not been published. All code is available under the openEuler open source umbrella.

Power to the Players Act: US Lawmaker Pushes for Digital Game Ownership

US Representative Ritchie Torres (D-NY) announced the Power to the Players Act, a bill that would direct the FTC to write rules making digital game purchases actual ownership rather than revocable licenses. Games relying on online servers would need to provide an offline mode before those servers shut down.

TechSpot reports that NBA 2K25’s service shutdown triggered the bill. However, US courts have generally held that software sold under a license falls outside the first-sale doctrine, making resale rights an uphill battle even if the bill passes. The legislation covers games only, not movies or music.
