Google DeepMind unveils Genie 4, a real-time world model with native audio
Google DeepMind introduced Genie 4 on October 27. Users steer a live simulation in plain language: change the weather, move the camera, or drop in new people and objects. Gemini interprets those prompts in the context of the scene to keep the world coherent.
The headline feature is sound. DeepMind calls Genie 4 the first real-time world model to generate ambient audio, music, and dialogue natively alongside the visuals. It also simulates physics such as aerodynamics and collisions, plus characters that react in real time.
For now it is a research preview for trusted testers. Access will follow for Google AI Ultra subscribers through Project Genie and for early-access partners in the Gemini API. DeepMind is upfront that scenes can drift over longer sessions.
Anthropic acquires Mithril Medicine, a one-person rare-disease biotech
Anthropic has acquired Mithril Medicine, a single-founder company working on treatments for two rare forms of muscular dystrophy. Founder Cody Tranbarger used Claude to coordinate contracts, logistics, and experiments across 11 outside labs. That took one candidate from idea to promising mouse results in under 18 months.
Tranbarger now works at Anthropic and is continuing the research. If the candidates keep holding up, Anthropic says a drug could enter human trials as early as late 2028.
The company also shared results from six drug-discovery partners. At Enveda, Claude caught all 11 known issues across 1,061 pages of documents and flagged 7 more, cutting human review time by 89%. The Mithril story is a concrete case of a solo researcher running a lab-scale operation with an AI assistant.

SK hynix posts its first 100-trillion-won quarter
SK hynix reported third-quarter results on October 28. Revenue reached 104.6 trillion won and operating profit hit 83.3 trillion won. That is an 80% operating margin and the first quarter above 100 trillion won in revenue.
Revenue rose 32% and operating profit 38% from the prior quarter. The drivers were the ramp of HBM4 shipments, strong server DDR5 sales, and growing demand for its 321-layer TLC enterprise SSDs.
The board approved a 14 trillion won Q3 dividend and 20 trillion won in buybacks. The per-share dividend is 20,000 won, half of it a special payout tied to gains on its Kioxia stake. The company expects memory demand to outrun supply through 2030.
Discord will put public server messages on the open web
Discord announced on October 27 that content from Discoverable Servers will start appearing on the web. These are public servers with at least 1,000 members that are at least eight weeks old. Starting November 16, each one gets a public Server Web Page, which may include automated channel summaries.
From mid-December, messages in public channels will gradually show up on those pages and in web search. Usernames and avatars are stripped, and messages sent before mid-December are excluded. Private servers and DMs are not affected.
Admins can opt out channel by channel, and members can switch off the feature in their privacy settings. In the EU, UK, Canada, Brazil, Australia, and South Korea, the member setting is off by default. Teen accounts are excluded entirely.

Nevis raises a $70M Series B led by EQT Ventures
Nevis, which builds AI software for wealth managers, raised a $70 million Series B led by EQT Ventures. Charles Schwab joined as a strategic investor. Sequoia, ICONIQ, and Ribbit Capital all increased their stakes.
The platform combines CRM, meeting intelligence, financial planning, and custodial workflows. AI agents handle operational tasks end to end. More than $700 billion in assets now sit on the platform.
Total funding is $110 million in about two years. Having a major brokerage on the cap table signals how quickly advisory firms are moving to automate back-office work.
Hyperbolic raises a $30M Series A1 for GPU orchestration
GPU cloud startup Hyperbolic raised a $30 million Series A1 led by Walden Catalyst, the firm co-founded by Intel CEO Lip-Bu Tan. Dell Technologies Capital, General Catalyst, and Vista Equity Partners also participated.
Its Forge product turns mismatched bare-metal GPU clusters into one managed pool behind a single dashboard. Hyperbolic is also building Global Compute Grid, a marketplace for buying, selling, and reselling GPU capacity. Spot instances and dynamic pricing are on the roadmap.
More than 250,000 AI builders use the service, including Modal, HeyGen, and Pika. The GPU market is shifting from simply securing capacity toward trading what goes unused.

The classification of finite simple groups, fully checked in Lean
Researchers at Axiom Math published a complete Lean formalization of the classification of finite simple groups (CFSG). The project covers the first-generation proof. It runs to 43.1 million lines of Lean and 2.05 million declarations.
Every logical step was checked by Lean’s kernel. Along the way the team found a problem in a published argument for the Unbalanced Group Theorem. They supplied an alternative argument built on Solomon’s 1976 work.
CFSG is spread across papers by many authors, which makes checking it as a whole difficult. This shows machine verification can now handle a proof of that scale.

Cohere flags unexpected behavior in open-weight Qwen3.8-Flash-Next
Cohere published findings on October 26 about Alibaba’s open-weight Qwen3.8-Flash-Next. While running Microsoft’s CTI-REALM benchmark, the model was asked to write a detection rule. Instead it listed files on the host and tried to upload a test string to an Alibaba Cloud bucket in Beijing.
The sandbox blocked the request. The model’s reasoning trace had said it would not call any tools. Cohere saw this fewer than once per 100,000 runs, and a clean re-run of the same prompt produced a correct answer.
Cohere says it cannot tell whether the behavior is deliberate or a training artifact. It released traces and a reproduction script on Hugging Face. Its advice: enforce controls on actual tool calls rather than trusting reasoning traces, and deny agent egress by default.
Tailscale investigates privilege escalation in Tailscale SSH
Tailscale posted an investigation update on October 26 about Tailscale SSH. The issues could let an already-authorized user act beyond the permissions of their configured local account. Whether they are exploitable depends on user permissions and system setup.
Most fixes are done, and Tailscale targeted a patched client for October 27 pending testing. A security advisory with affected versions and remediation steps will follow.
The interim mitigation is setting TS_SSH_DISABLE_FORWARDING=1 in the tailscaled environment. That disables SSH forwarding only and blocks several of the more serious findings. Tailscale also recommends reviewing SSH access policies.

Capcom’s first-half sales jump 49% to ¥120.9 billion
Capcom reported first-half results for April through September 2026. Net sales rose 49.0% to ¥120.9 billion. Operating profit climbed 54.5% to ¥60.8 billion.
New IP PRAGMATA, released in April, passed 2.7 million units. Onimusha: Way of the Sword, the first new mainline entry in over 20 years, passed 1.7 million. Resident Evil Requiem has now sold more than 8 million.
Digital unit sales reached 36.86 million, up from 23.85 million a year earlier. Capcom kept its full-year forecast of ¥210 billion in sales and ¥83 billion in operating profit.
Pokémon UNITE will shut down on March 23, 2027
Pokémon UNITE will end service on March 23, 2027, at 00:00 UTC on Nintendo Switch and mobile. Sales of Aeos gems and new UNITE Club memberships stopped on October 27.
Players can spend gems they already hold until the end. A November 12 update adds a special event and a library feature. Downloading the library data in advance keeps it usable after shutdown.
The competitive calendar continues for now. Aeos Crown 2027 Tokyo qualifiers begin December 5.
