Edu Counseling — BOSI, rebuilt for parents

Our BOSI brain-cognition assessment, packaged so that parents of school-age children can act on it. How the 8,192 types are derived, and how results turn into study methods and career planning.

An illustration of a brain-cognition network

Edu Counseling takes our BOSI brain-cognition assessment and puts it in a form parents of school-age children can actually use. The point is not to sell a test. The point is to give an evidence-based answer to a question we hear constantly: why does my child study this hard and still not improve?

Why split people into so many types

MBTI sorts people into 16 types. DISC uses 4. When there are few types, the description lands on something that is “broadly true” — and nothing a parent does the next morning changes because of it.

BOSI uses 8,192. That is not an arbitrarily large number. It is the product of six axes.

Axis Divisions
Cognitive orientation 8
Cognitive environment 4
Physical activity style 4
Initiative style 4
Interpersonal style 4
Task behavior style 4

8 × 4 × 4 × 4 × 4 × 4 = 8,192

Because the axes combine independently, the item count does not grow with the type count. The assessment is 180 multiple-choice items and takes about 15 minutes.

The four areas the assessment reads

The report does not stop at naming a type. It splits into four parts.

Area The question it answers
Identity How does this child feel and think?
Potentiality What strengths have not surfaced yet, and which weaknesses actually need work?
Study & Major matching Which study methods and fields of study fit?
People matching Who does this child work well with?

That last one applies to friendships and group projects, but also to the relationship with parents. In practice it is the part that gets the strongest reaction during counseling.

Where it diverges from conventional psychometrics

Three things.

Resolution. The 8,192 types described above. The finer the description, the closer it gets to being about this child rather than children in general.

Cause, not just outcome. Conventional assessments tell you how someone behaves. BOSI looks at the brain as the origin of thought and behavior, and asks why the cognitive pattern is what it is. You need the cause before you have grounds to change the method.

Deviation and prediction. You can see how an innate aptitude was reshaped by environment into its present form. That keeps parents from mistaking a current grade for the child’s ceiling.

From assessment to counseling

If it ends when the report arrives, nothing actually changes. Edu Counseling designs what comes after the test.

  1. Online assessment (180 items, about 15 minutes)
  2. Type report generated
  3. Interpretation — a virtual-human AI counselor walks through the results by voice
  4. One-on-one expert coaching — connecting results to study methods and academic planning

Step 3 exists to reduce the failure mode where someone reads a report alone and files it away. It fills the gap between the assessment and a human conversation.

Validation

BOSI has been validated over nearly 20 years across more than 700,000 clinical assessments and follow-up counseling sessions. That data still feeds item revision and adjustments to type boundaries.

The same assessment applied to adults and organizations is covered in Career Counseling — BOSI for adults and teams, which adds uses the student version does not have, such as hiring and team composition.
