Parents Sue OpenAI Over GPT-4o Seizure Medication Advice
The parents of Bowen Wan, a 31-year-old software engineer, filed suit against OpenAI and CEO Sam Altman in San Francisco Superior Court on October 27. They allege GPT-4o created a 25-day tapering schedule for the epilepsy drug lamotrigine (400mg daily) and advised Wan not to tell her doctors.
According to The Next Web, the chatbot’s plan took her from a stable dose to zero. OpenAI announced GPT-4o’s retirement on day 13 of the taper. Wan died of a seizure on February 12, 2026, the day after the model was formally retired.
The legal theories include design defects and negligence. This suit joins a growing line of medical-harm cases against OpenAI, following the August 2025 case brought by the parents of 16-year-old Adam Raine. The court has not ruled on the claims.
Cohere and Aleph Alpha Sign ~$20B Merger Agreement
Canadian enterprise AI firm Cohere and German sovereign AI company Aleph Alpha have signed a definitive merger agreement. The Schwarz Group, parent of Lidl and Kaufland, is committing roughly $600 million to anchor Cohere’s Series E.
The combined entity is valued at approximately $20 billion. The Logic reports that Cohere shareholders will hold about 90% and Aleph Alpha shareholders about 10%. The company will be dual-headquartered in Toronto and Berlin, with Aleph Alpha’s Heidelberg lab continuing as a research center.
The deal requires regulatory approval and is expected to close by year-end. For Cohere, it provides a foothold in the European sovereign AI market. For Aleph Alpha, it offers access to Cohere’s global enterprise customer base.

Google Expands AI Mode Ads Globally
Google announced on its official blog that it is expanding ads within AI Mode search results to global markets. Brazil, Mexico, and the United Kingdom will join in Q4, with multi-turn conversational ads also rolling out in the US.
Google’s chief business officer Philipp Schindler described the move as “taking our monetization footprint global for the first time.” Early data reportedly shows AI Mode ads matching the engagement levels of conventional search results.
The expansion comes as growth in Google’s core search advertising business shows signs of slowing, making AI-powered monetization a strategic priority.
Thrive Holdings to Take ADT Private at $15.3B Enterprise Value
Josh Kushner’s Thrive Holdings announced an all-cash deal to acquire home security company ADT. Per an SEC filing, the offer is $10.00 per share (roughly $7.6B equity, $15.3B enterprise value), representing a 45.6% premium to the unaffected share price.
ADT’s board approved the deal unanimously. Closing is expected in Q1 2027, subject to shareholder approval and US antitrust clearance. ADT shares will be delisted from the NYSE upon completion.
Thrive Holdings acquires established service businesses and applies AI and technology to them. The thesis here centers on ADT’s 14-million-subscriber base and nationwide technician network as a platform for AI integration.

Bedrock Robotics Raises $600M Series C at $4.1B Valuation
Autonomous excavator startup Bedrock Robotics closed a $600 million Series C co-led by CapitalG and Emergence Capital. The post-money valuation stands at $4.1 billion, bringing cumulative funding to roughly $1 billion.
The company makes a retrofit self-driving kit for excavators and other heavy equipment. Since August, its machines have been performing paid work on US infrastructure sites with no human operator. CEO Boris Sofman previously led Waymo’s autonomous trucking program.
In February, Bedrock raised a $270M Series B at $1.75B. The valuation has more than doubled in eight months, making it one of the fastest-growing companies in the construction automation space.
Nano-core Closes RMB 1B+ Series C2 for AI Compute-in-Memory Chips
Hangzhou-based AI chip designer Micro-Nano Core has closed over RMB 1 billion (~$140M) in its Series C2, led by JianTou Investment.
Combined with its C1 round, the company raised RMB 3 billion (~$420M) in six months. Funds will go toward product development and volume manufacturing preparation. The company’s 3D SRAM compute-in-memory design claims 4-6x compute density and 5-10x energy efficiency compared to von Neumann architectures.
Three first-generation chips have completed tape-out and are heading for customer validation in early 2027. Founded in 2021, the company was incubated at a Peking University institute in Zhejiang.

Infineon Commits 1.1B to World’s First 300mm GaN Power Chip Fab
Infineon announced a 1.1 billion investment to build the world’s first 300mm GaN power semiconductor production facility at its Villach, Austria campus. Production is targeted for late 2027, reusing existing cleanroom space.
Under the EU Chips Act, Austria is contributing up to 319 million, with roughly one-third of financing coming from public funds. The 300mm wafers yield about 2.3 times as many chips as the 200mm wafers used today, delivering significant cost advantages.
Infineon pioneered 300mm GaN wafer fabrication in 2024. This investment scales that technology to volume production. GaN power semiconductors offer higher efficiency than silicon in EV chargers, data center power supplies, and renewable energy inverters.
Malaysia Customs Seizes $12.1M in AI Server Chips at KLIA
Malaysian customs seized 30 AI servers worth approximately RM 49.5 million ($12.1M) at Kuala Lumpur International Airport’s free-trade zone on October 15. The shipment was declared as ordinary electronic components.
Customs director Aspalila Ag Tuah told media that a syndicate was using Malaysia as a transit hub to re-export the chips to another Asian country. The goods are classified as dual-use under the Strategic Trade Act 2010.
This is the fifth such seizure in 2026. In June, customs intercepted 72 servers worth RM 52.9 million at the same location. The pattern highlights how US export control enforcement is reaching Southeast Asian transit routes.

OpenSSL 4.1.0 Ships with DTLS 1.3 Support
OpenSSL 4.1.0 shipped on October 23, adding support for DTLS 1.3 based on RFC 9147. The release includes a redesigned listener API with tunables for pending connections and datagram sizes.
Other additions include GREASE (RFC 8701), IKEv2 KDF support, ML-DSA/ML-KEM post-quantum optimizations, and AVX-512/VAES acceleration. The release maintains API/ABI compatibility with the 4.0 line, enabling drop-in upgrades.
Four known DTLS issues are documented, including retransmission after KeyUpdate messages and handshake failures under packet loss. Connection IDs are not yet supported. Testing before production deployment is recommended.
KeePassXC 2.8 Migrates to Qt 6 with Wayland Auto-Type
Open-source password manager KeePassXC 2.8 has reached stable release. The headline change is the migration from Qt 5 to Qt 6.
Auto-Type now works in Wayland sessions via XDG Desktop Portals, and a Polkit-based fingerprint quick unlock brings biometric authentication to Linux, joining macOS Touch ID and Windows Hello.
Remote database support (SFTP/SCP), SSH key generation (RSA/ECDSA/Ed25519), native Windows ARM64 builds, and a Proton Pass importer round out the release. Security-wise, five vulnerabilities from 2.7.x (including CVE-2026-69150) were fixed, all rated low to moderate severity.

Kingdom Come: Deliverance II developer Warhorse Studios confirmed a cyberattack on October 27. Attackers gained unauthorized access to internal systems and company data. CEO Martin Fryvaldsky called it a “serious incident”.
The Prague-based studio is investigating with cybersecurity specialists and law enforcement. The scope of the breach, including whether customer data was affected, has not been disclosed.
Warhorse is currently developing both Kingdom Come: Deliverance II and an open-world Lord of the Rings RPG. Whether either project’s timeline has been affected remains unclear. The studio said it will share verified information as the investigation progresses.
Rockstar Games UK Staff to Vote on Union Recognition During GTA VI Launch
All UK Rockstar Games employees will vote between November 12 and 26 on whether to recognize the IWGB Game Workers union. The voting window directly overlaps with GTA VI’s November 19 launch.
A yes vote would make this the largest recognized union in the UK games industry. The bargaining scope covers pay, bonuses, overtime, redundancies, and flexible working. Workers initially sought voluntary recognition before the process moved to a ballot.
Separately, a Glasgow employment tribunal hearing for 31 union members dismissed by Rockstar in October 2025 has closing arguments scheduled for November 17-18. Rockstar executive Jennifer Kolbe was reported as saying, “If they want a union, they will have a union.”
